Not with the exclusive Instagram that took place in San Francisco Between Elon Musk and our technology correspondent James Clayton Response to live in less drastic measures In these are rough numbers: a revenue dropped from four and a half billion to three wide People happy I Dream of a wide shut wine vibe. Expenses went from four and a half to six creating a three billion dollar negative cash flow situation and Twitter having a billion dollars in the bank. That's four months to live. So unless drastic action wrong version: this company is going to die.

And be honest, let's talk about that drastic action because almost immediately, um, you sacked a lot of Twitter workers. Um, yeah and and I I spoke to them. It's very easy to speak to them. Uh, when it happened and and the way it is pretty much everyone's sad is is that it felt quite haphazard.

It was and it felt a little bit uncaring. The the, the, the, the, you know the issue is like uh, the companies are gonna go bankrupt or uncaring. You're not cut costs immediately. Um, this is not a caring uncaring situation.

It's like if whole ship sinks so nobody's got a job right? Yeah, but a lot of people just lost their jobs like that Again, has a chat. What is wrong with the BBC As a news station that this guy is on interviewing it. What the kind of answer is that to the question? Yes yes the question get an answer. Then she just completely disregards the the ninja of the answer.

it just goes with another. It goes back at it. This is not a caring, uncaring situation. It's like if whole ship sinks so nobody's got a job.

Well, there's others. Yeah, right. yeah. But a lot of people just lost their jobs like that.

Um, and and they went. They didn't even know they would. They'd lost their jobs often. they just they were just frozen out.

Okay, so in this guy's mind, it's better than you on payroll right for two months and then fire every single employee because now the ship's the ship sinks. So this is well, instead of firing some people, let's keep everybody on payroll and then everybody fired and nobody gets paid forever. I Mean at least at least it was kind. What the is this? what would you do? Well, you might want to give someone some notice.

I Mean you might. It's by the way. I'm not running Twitter But no, no, this is the criticism and this is what actual this is what a staff members say. A little bit of notice.

Uh, you know no I understand. If you're four months to live, 120 days and 120 days, you're dead. So how so what do you want to do? How much are you worth? I Don't know. but I mean we're talking about around the 200 billion dollar.

Mark I Mean it's not quite. You're free. Oh my God you know it had I had a few months to live. You're quite a rich man.

Um I saw a lot of Tesla star. All right this guy is I Don't mean to be rude, just just get a new one. Uh, get a new line of questioning. Maybe a new job I Don't know.
This guy's a terrible interviewer, has a lot of money. He should get a new business venture and then personally inject his funds into his personal funds into the employees themselves and do charity or wealth wealth distribution. Oh no to close this deal. Ew I Do Not want to sell a Tesla stock in what was quite a lengthy interview.

Elon Musk Also said he is confident that the social media platform Twitter will become profitable again and advertisers will return. Let's have a listen to this in terms of advertising. Obviously the Twitter is not a private company anymore, so we don't really know how it's how it's all going. Have all the advertisers come back uh, not all but most and you can see it for yourself on Twitter even in the for you feed right? I mean in the sorry in the following ideas for you because it sucks rightly? um I Love you.

He laughs hysterically as he gives away as he gives people uh for you page full of people that just fights, gun headshots, deaths, shootings, brutal beatings, bloody death like brother. Okay, A for your face full of kills. You like it. Um, that's not what I said.

Okay, well why don't you use for you? Um, how is it going? Is twittering profit now? no? Twitter is uh uh. rough I'd say we're roughly break even at this point. and I think you've said before you you see, uh, you see a world where you could be in profit. Is there a timeline on that? Do you think I mean depending on how things go, if current trends continue I think we could be profitable or I mean to be more precise, we could be cash flow positive.

Uh, this quarter. If things keep going, well, this quarter as soon as that, uh, possibly yeah. Wow. Um, and do you have a message for the advertising? I mean can you say which advertisers haven't come back? Um I think I think almost all of them have either come back or said they're going to come back.

Why does it matter? Well, that's just gonna. Isn't it kind of a liability to call people out for not going back as an Advertiser if they're not already as like oh guys, this is going to come back. but I mean it's kind of weird to ask them to say um I Actually don't know of anyone who said definitively they're not coming back. They're all sort of training towards coming back, but there are some that just happened.

It's great. That's it. That's your message to the to the advertisers. you haven't come back.

Why is he laughing? Look, uh, you know this guy is just bad. He feels comfortable. Um, advertising. You know, children's movies and Apple feels comfortable advertising.

iPhones those are good indicators that Twitter is um, a good place to advertise. Um I Want to talk about if you have any regret regrets and and you know I think you were Buddha Dave Chappelle concert I Think your own lawyer said a little a little. Well, some say a little. Some say a bit more.

um I think your own lawyer said you couldn't get a fair trial in San Francisco because there are lots of people that don't necessarily like you here. Yeah, but you know I didn't say I was wrong, he was wrong I Guess the Uh because um I was wedded uh by the San Francisco jury unanimously. So but I guess but look, do you have any regrets about buying? Twitter um I think it was something that needed to be done. um, difficult.
You know. I'd say that like the the pain level of Twitter has been extremely high. Um, this hasn't been some sort of party. um so uh, it's been really quite a stressful situation.

Uh, you know for the last several months not not an easy one. but apart from the pay I mean so it's been quite painful. Um, but I think yeah, it's interesting. It should have been done.

I think tonight were there many mistakes made along the way? Of course you know, um and uh, but you know, all small. it ends well and so I I feel like we're headed uh, to a good place? Um, you know where roughly break even. I think we're trending towards being cash flow positive very soon. Like literally in a matter of because Twitter sucks is I Feel like uh Twitter was changing a lot of things fast.

It was trying new things and now they kind of stopped. It's like they stopped trying it. New thing is that seems like I didn't I didn't even care that they were trying. At least we're trying new things.

Some of it was bad, that something was good, so it was terrible, right? Just keep trying things. Why they just stopped Now months the advertisers are returning. Um, the I think the quality of recommended tweets has improved significantly and we've taken a lot of feedback from people that have looked at the open source recommendation algorithm and we've we've made a lot of improvements even since that was made open source and we're going to keep doing that. So overall I think the trend is very good.

So okay, that's it. Oh this one. Oh, that's what people were talking about each. um in the company I I mean I Would only just add that you know we have spoken to people who who have been sacked that used to be in content moderation and and we've spoken to people very recently who were involved in moderation and they just say they just there's not enough people to police this stuff, particularly around Um, particularly around hate speech.

Um, in the company you're talking about I mean you use Twitter right? Do you see a rise in hate speech? I mean just a personal anecdote like what do you do I don't personally. but I uh for you I would see I get one I Guess yeah, that kind of content. Okay, hate speech and speech that you don't agree with. Those are two different things I Understand literally all of this cause I watch I I Get it.

You want to get mad Sometimes isn't a speech is something that you don't personally agree with then. which is what you might think is it's still bad and hurtful, right? Your day has been. and then you're gonna realize that the basis of of democracy and and conversations is that without anybody saying something against your point, you'll never grow and you'll never get better ideas because you never have the best possible idea. It's by getting it an opposing view even if it's dog that you have to rethink and ask new questions and get new answers.
and that's how you grow dumb as so something. Oh dude. I don't like this or that state speech. Don't be like that.

That's their Twitter speech. Personally I would say I would see more hateful content in that and that content you don't like to describe a hateful thing. Yeah, I mean you know this content that will solicit a reaction. Something that may include something that is slightly racist or slightly sexist.

Those kinds of those kinds of things. So you think if something is slightly sexist, it should be banned I'm asking for a specific examples. and if and you just said that if something is slightly sexist, dad He I'm not even a big writer I'm wrong about this. If somebody, if somebody says he thinks women should should stay as a Homemakers Instead at home and raise his children, right? and that's what he thinks his values are at.

right? Yet you might think you have a posing for you right? and I say oh, do that Well, that's misogynistic and that's that. that that's hate speech or some. Well, even though I don't agree with that statement I still don't think that that's hate speech and it's an opposing view. So that's hateful content.

Does that mean that it should be bad? Well, you've asked me. You've asked me whether my feed. That's it, whether it's got less or more. I'd say it's got slightly more.

That's why I'm asking for examples. Can I can you name one example I I honestly don't you I I Honestly I can't name a single example I'll tell you why because I don't actually use that for you feed anymore because I just don't particularly like it. Yeah, this is the classic guys. I This is the typical small person argument type.

This is like a I'm not sure I've used that fee for the last three or four. Well, then how did you see that contact? because I've been I've been using it I've been using Twitter since you've taken over for the last six months. Okay, so then you must have at some point seen that you're for your hateful content. I'm asking for one example, right? You can't give a simple one and I'm saying I I say so that you don't know what you're talking about.

Really? Yes, Because you can't be a single example of hateful content. Not even one tweet. And yet you're claimed that the hateful content was high. Well, that's a false no.

What? I could just slide. What? no, no what I claim was Uh, there are many uh organizations that say that that kind of information is on the rise. Now, whether whether it has examples I mean right? The Strategic diet. All you had to do chat to prove his point is pro is: get one tweet, one, a research data, one analysis, one any statement of anybody.
it could you could have. You could have did a five minute research and proven this point. quote unquote hello Because people will say all sorts of nonsense. I'm literally asking for a single example and you can't name one, right? And as I already said, I don't use that feed.

But how would you know that I don't think this is getting anything. You literally said you experienced more hateful content and then couldn't name a single example, right? And as I said, that's absurd I haven't I haven't actually looked at that feed, then how would you know this beautiful content Because I'm saying that's what I saw a few weeks ago. I Can't give you an exact example? Let's move on. we have.

We only have a certain amount of time. Um, well. covert misinformation. You've changed the covert misinformation.

BBC Changes covered misinformation. The BBC does not set the rules on Twitter. So I'm asking you no. I'm talking about what the BBC's misinformation about covet I'm I'm just asking you about you change the labels The covered misinformation labels they used to be Jesus Is this guy that disappeared? Why do that? Covert is no longer an issue.

Does the BBC hold itself at all responsible for misinformation regarding masking and side effects of vaccinations and not reporting on that at all? And what about the fact that the BBC was put under pressure by the British government to change the editorial policy? Are you aware of that? This is a this is not an interview about the BBC. Oh, you thought it wasn't I See now, lived on Twitter spaces. I'm not a representative of the BBC's editorial policies. All right, let's let's talk about let's talk about something else.

You weren't expecting that. Let's talk about something else. Foreign chat. Is this the best guy they got? bro.

They're gonna send anybody from the BBC they send this buster I Don't even get it. This is just what I need to buzz I Do not get it. What is this buster?.

The ego on the interviewer is insane, he can't be wrong and even when given answers that any logical person would conclude is a reasonable response he refuses to be critical an allows his bias to control him.
