#xQc #nardwuar #interview
You been in this town long enough to know. Spit on me. Okay, get him out of here. We're not going to sit here and jack off all day.
Oh, should shut up man. you're not funny. This is embarrassing for you. It's crack.
The guy is on crack. We're going to K for asking one little I don't give a sh. do you like taking all the attention? Oh my God I am nard a human seret from Vancouver British Columbia Canada you might recognize his face CH I'll give it a chance. Minutes is a punk rocker radio talker and unorthodox journalist.
Sound like a normal name for a journalist I Don't know much about him except the no normal journalist. His peculiar name and appearance are now anchored in culture. but Nadir's journey is not without bumps, hurdles, and more than his fair share of doubters. This is the extravagant tale of Nadar the Misunderstood Superstar 19 1985 Vancouver British Colan Canada A child named John Ruskin attends Hillside secondary school and is about to conduct his very first interview.
Circle Here he's interacting with the band Poisoned and at just 17 years old John's confidence is unparalleled. there. Go tight squeeze. We must move past September 26 1985 into the future.
What layes ahead? Why do you like XO The reason I like XO is because it gives me an opport to talk to crazy people. A year later, in 1986, John attends the University of British Columbia where he volunteers for the campus radio station. CIT So we've seen the CIT Library any questions we might have been on air when that happened. We were probably on air when that happened.
This was John's proper introduction to the behind the scenes of radio and journalism and he was enthralled surrounded by All Things music. Citr was an enlightening experience for John. He quickly became part of the furniture and it was here that the name Nard originated. There's not much information on what this name means.
He insists it's a name, it's a concept. it's just for fun. John's decision to change his identity is the first evidence of him distancing himself from the crowd. From the very beginning, Nadwa invited the puzzled onlookers and this name change sets the ball.
I See the video night, it's only 10 minutes and I get to know more about the guy that we watch a lot. G From unbridled passion for music, much of time was spent working towards his bachelor's degree in history. Do you have any idea what you're going to do once you get out of University You know when you grow up. Well, my parents have an idea.
My dad would like me to be an engineer and what do you think about that? I'm going to try to be an engineer but I don't think I'll be an engineer. Engineering wasn't on his road map, but in 1988 Nadar combines his Newfound hobby of interviewing with an interest in local. History Mr turn can I ask you a question Tom Actually, it's for CIT r I Was wondering, um, who are your main uh Idols would you say your top three Idols All right, Thanks very much. In 1990, Nadir graduates with his bachelor's degree and decides now was the time to go all in on music and journalism because there was something very special that Nadar hoped to pursue and that was called the Evaporators. Okay, here we go. We're starting CIT 52 of the Scorner Party we evaporators. What's that Evaporators were made up of Nadar As a lead singer with his friends David Scott and Pete behind him. Right from the start, Nadar's wild energy was infectious to watch.
Inspired by bands like The Sonics, The Cramps, and The Kingsmen, the Evaporators benefited from an absolutely electric frontman Dayto Day Nard mostly contained his brimming excitement for life, but on stage with that microphone in hand, there was no containing. that's nice nard. The Human Surate presents. oh God My M is on channel 10 This Record is available at track Zulu and scratch in Vancouver and across Canada hopefully through Cargo Distributors and United States.
But as fun as leading a punk rock band was host Uni Life for Nard also included a lot of political press conferences. Earlier today at a news conference at Science World a reporter from Ubc's CIT radio through an odd ball question at Gorbachov of all the political figures who has the largest pants hi, Mr Quil who's the Prime Minister of Canada Do you think though that mace equals Freedom some of the protesters were Ma: what did he say? pepper spray for me pepper I put it on my plate Can you cure the Summertime Blues can you cure stupidity M Strangely no I was just wondering stri you like act wait what is it? can you cure the Summertime Blues can you cure stupidity M Strangely oh I wish you'd shut up man, you're not funny no I was just wondering you acting like your now I'll tellar you n's enough and you need God that's what you need Thanks Have a good lunch. In the years after graduating, Nir was becoming recognized as an eccentric political journalist in Canada N. The Human Suret.
Timothy L I'm not going to argue with that, but these stale conference rooms were a long way from where he knew he belonged and by the ofy, MW was generating a presence in the music industry with his unmatched energy towards interviewing music artists. Come on, let's go come on, come on, come on. His excentric demeanor meant every interview was a memorable and it didn't take long for Nadir's name to be muttered amongst high-profile celebrities. Hello I'm feeling great Mr Brown Well I know Mr Brown is real great but I think he might have better call me James Brown But NAD wasn't getting into these rooms with just a funny hat in a voice.
No, He knew that in order to really leave a mark on his guests, he needed to do his homework. His dad played in a surf band that released a surf record. That's true. Is that weird that he? How do you know what? were they did you? He was inexperienced but I didn't that he was no chat I wondered what what he learned or what experience made him understand that. that's what impacted people a lot. it's surpris something like that. he used it to his Advantage the less you know the better. If your nerve resets good, that makes you try to find out more information about the person you're talking to OB If it was so obvious somebody out there would have done it before, he does it as his main thing.
but if when it came to interviewing Snoop Dog for the first time he knew Snoop Dog Oh he loves comedy. It's always obvious when you always have it in front of you. Oh and my friend Diane Hol has a Red Fox doll I Like red fox this do where you get this from can I have it or can I buy it. It went down well.
Nadar's hunger to Astound his crowd Le leak into his interviewing approach whether you're diving in the crowd trying to get the people into it or diving into the story, trying to extrapolate the information. His peculiar presents, curious questions, and generous gift giving was a treat for many of Nadar's guests. but to suggest that these interviews often went smoothly would be remarkably dishonest. You only have like two more questions until we're done.
I Don't give a why Am I irritating you because you're putting your microphone too close to my face. We're not going to sit here and jack off all day. He speechless. Get him the out of here.
I'm hungry for an intelligent conversation which I've yet to find Many simply couldn't Nar and were difficult with him with malicious intent or not. But there are a couple instances where Nadar's vulnerability as an interviewer were taken advantage of by indisputable bullying. Good to see you again to be here. Are you happy to take my hat? Are you? Are you happy? Are you happy? What about your other band mate? In a 2003 interview with Blur, Nardan noticed within seconds that he'd entered a hostile environment.
The 5-minute interview begins with drummer Dave rry snatching Nad's paper, pushing him, stealing his glasses, tossing his hat, and conducting an intimidating stance. He then refuses all questions, threatens Nadwa, and eventually assaults him. Oh, he leaves the room 3 minutes in and then on the interview becomes a little less painful. Unfortunately, this experience is not unfamiliar to Nard because 8 years previously he'd gone through worse with Sonic Youth This 1991 conversation marks the beginning of Nadar's interviewing career, and if it was anyone else, would have also marked the end of it.
Things get Dirty did you record at Conrad Uno's Fun Loft there t in Seattle Maybe hey just a minute pal. just a minute. No, not in that, not in that bag. No, not that bag I have something to show you I have something to show you I want to show it W I Want to show him I want to show it Oh my God you piece of it's horist Lee Ronaldo steals Nad's bag and destroys a $100 collector record he was planning to gift them you were in Seattle Washington weren't you Mr Sonic Come on, take that is funny. Come on, hey run. Okay, well we we still we still can I Can't believe this I Can't believe this. There are may be hundreds of instances where the world seem to tell NAD he was on the he breaks convention upsets the norm to a lot Nadar is hard to grasp, especially when he was coming through. There is a clear Trend in his early years of guests misunderstanding nard.
but if there's one thing we know about him, he doesn't mind I prepare because I know I'm going to keep doing them over and over and over again. What the bro? How the do you know that y you even know from our block? Whoa the how do you know that I put the same amount of research into every single interview I Do wait, hold up. How do you know that dog? I Don't know if you're a police months damn that's but still no welcome to VHS cassette right here. Oh my, This is what the I've been trying to find.
The minute you think you know something is the minute you should quit yo. How do you know this bro? Most guys who interview me don't have as much personality as you. This is one of the most impressive interviews I've ever experienced in my life in many ways. Nadar is still the same excitable kid from all those years ago.
They doubted him, underestimated him, but he's been Rock Solid an immovable object in an industry that took a long time to catch up with him. He's battled a brain, hemorrhage, a stroke, and heart surgery while never losing that joyful grin. If I can do it, you can do it too. Be curious, forget the doubters, and never ever forget good night John Good night yo yeah, it's got.
I I think it's like notoriety and people that people that know that game I feel like I feel like people now know you know I think if you would to rewrite history and and and remove his past and you were put him back into the interviews you might have another one of the videos where people like crush his up cuz people might think they being belittled. whatever because they don't understand the format yo this is X x on the be yo okay you my voice as well that anyone knows that boy I don't know he's just so sry anyone knows that boy I don't know he's just so sorry.
Never back down never what
Dude dead ass reminds me of Etika
Very disingenuous putting the Henry Rollins clips in there.
i just dont understand how unprovoked all of his verbal and physical assualt was. bro was giving them attention and just being kind and he gets treated like shit. terrible people man glad he pushed through
Crazy how nardwuar is now more popular then some of the people that disrespected him
sad attention span is so tiny Dude gotta repeatedly tell people it’s only 10 minutes😭
This deserves waaaaaay more views.
Clip of his 100$ disc being broke is sad asf fr, he such a good dude and could never hate him for doing what he loves and never caring
Xqc got 100 mil and stopped talking💀
Man, he would have gotten famous so much faster if todays internet was around during his early days
It's nice to have a interviewer and journalist who cares about their work and doesn't just go interview the most famous person they can find knowing nothing about them
Can x ban everyone in chat that texts in the chat, everyones SO GOD DAMN ANNOYING
If you don’t know nardwuar then you missed years of awesome interviews and interviewing skills
Need to give legends their flowers while we still have them. Hope he gets his star on the walk of fame.
Nardwuar with the blick would go nutso, nobody gonna try to bully Nardwuar then
