Um because i feel like a lot of twitch news hit the headlines and it's kind of hard to have a take that that isn't like five months: anti twitter and typing twitch, which uh, because it's like very popular opinion or whatever. The ad thing yeah, but also also the 50 50 thing like guys most if mo the extreme massive majority of streamers, are 50 50.. So, like yeah, it's it's it! It's it's a big deal right, but um people saying oh dude, but it smaller creators. Well, smaller feeders are already 50 50.. It does.

It doesn't change anything i'm not taking 50.. I haven't dvd forever guys it's not even a leak, guys slamming a leaking. I got lucky. I got partnered and upgraded because i was a pro player.

I signed my contract. A long time ago, because i joined the denial esports, so they got signed as a pro player. They had a twitch package right, which anybody that streams for them as an organization would have it 7-3. So i got 7-3 and i i never got downgraded, and everybody knows this, but nobody, it seems like nobody's talking about it.

Okay, every streamer uh our partner. If they don't say anything or don't uh uh reach out to their contracts, auto resign every year it it's. It's it's it's! It's auto sign thingy, but i think if they want negotiate, they can no they're, not no. No, no they're, not still paying me.

This is the guys that i guess denial. Never did yes, denial, never paid me anybody! Anybody who strained on their on their on their behalf or whatever it means i get to cut it with twitch. No, they never paid us.

That say, oh guys, their product is now doing this well here at youtube. We do this instead, guys, i feel like that's just that's just cringe. I'm sorry guys, i think, that's just cringe. I think i think them every time.

Oh yeah, it's just it's just which is weird. It's just it looks. It comes from like really some weird insecurity like just i don't know. It's just weird man well about changes.

They're trying to make uh to their partner program they're trying to make to become about businesses now really that just seems like just weird and petty how's that business guys people can feel people can see. Okay, when you do that yeah, you get you're right, but you just look like you just look like a more profitable right. It's the key! We'll talk about that later. Let's go over the changes and first one pretty simple incentives for more ads: um new tier systems.

Don't really know what that means, but okay, uh, no more exclusivity, very interesting all right, because, right now, if you're a partner, you can only stream on twitch new tier systems. I think i think what that is. Is you guys do people clap for that? I think that's like uh a tears of like ad percentages and and uh ad share and like you're, a partner you're, a super partner, you're, a chooser partner, you're, a massive premium partner, or something like that guys. This is what it is so open up people to being able uh volume on twitch and youtube simultaneously, which a lot of people believe - and i i do too um - is a better way to grow overall you're just reaching more people um and then the final one.

Um is the one i skipped over, which is the new revenue split 70 to 50. Now that number is going down, which is which is bad for creators uh, and i at first read this and i was like okay new revenue, uh split, seventy percent in just for you guys understanding this is for subs right. So seventy percent of a five dollar sub is 350.. Most big creators are currently getting that three dollars and fifty cents well most of them.

Some of them aren't because they kind of stopped giving it out, like i know, atriox, for example, has like five six thousand subs. He gets the plain old, 50 50 sub split uh because they just kind of stopped giving out yes, so most people are on that anyway. So i thought this was something they've already implemented, which is stopping new creators from getting the 50 50 split, but it turns out they're, considering taking people who are currently making 70 for every sub and just slicing it down to 50., which is kind of crazy. I didn't hear about that 20 pay cut for for thousands of streamers.

That's a lot of people who are going to be losing a lot of money. Now it doesn't really affect people like xqc or miz, who, who are already set. Okay, they've crossed the threshold of i don't care how much you make it's alright, i absolutely love the streams and it was great in the middle of you play overwatch again guys. I just feel like uh, if you're at 70, right now and you're, better you're about to get cutted, i feel like you could probably negotiate to go back to it.

Commentator and streamer he's like 2 000 subs, you make 250 on it. You walk away with about 5 000 before taxes. The taxes are a little bit higher because you're a contract worker 60k a year. If you get that extra dollar right 250 to 350., all of a sudden you're making seven thousand dollars a month.

Okay, eighty-four thousand dollars a year, that's looking pretty good all right, but occasionally take this about your off stream. Maybe with your friends, i don't really give a about your opinion. I'm watching this! That's it! That's! That's a that's a juicy payout! That's that's a nice job! This is news: is this twitch, i'm watching it should i? Yes, i have um and it makes a big difference for a lot of creators who are just starting to do this full-time. So a lot of people were reasonably upset about this and and a lot of bigger creators were also kind of annoyed at the ad changes, because twitch viewers hate watching ads.

It's not ingrained into the culture at all. If you watch a youtube video, like maybe one of my videos, you might notice there's like a lot of ads like like a lot like every couple minutes, my bad, but most you guys don't care. There are studies that show that viewership does not change on youtube. Even with higher ad density, you know if you run an ad every five minutes versus an ad every three minutes.

People don't really care because it's ingrained in the culture and the ads aren't very intrusive. You can just immediately hit the skip button and hassan even talked about this. He said when i negotiated my contract. I knew this was coming, so i locked in one minute of ads per hour, and this is in his bespoke contract because he's a much larger creator and he's right.

That is a very, very low number i mean most people are doing triple quadruple, even quintuple. That amount yeah, you guys guys guys uh. I don't want to be weird, but you guys i love hassan okay, but uh he's been fighting so hard to put it out there, but the reality is that most people without everybody is all automatic because it's all automatic it just goes without guys. It's all already doing it, it's all automatic and he makes uh he he has like a less one and it does it manually.

So it's like it adds uh yeah. I i can appreciate. I can appreciate that. I mean that's right.

Very smart jungle is good. It seems like a hassle imo. Twitch should implement ads that don't directly interfere with the stream sidebar picture-in-picture underlay et cetera. I understand advertisers are essential to make a platform profitable, but intervening with the viewers.

Experience isn't how they should go about it. I agree, agreed agreed, profitable, guys, guys, i'm pretty sure, youtube and twitch make no money. Is this correct? I said that but yeah i appreciate it. Let's take a look all right.

Just saying here on twitch we have this and youtube. Has that lol dude easy serving you back-to-back ads within a minute because they know you'll leave the platform. If that happens, so they very intentionally check you just watch an ad, you don't have to watch another one. That's why a creator can't put an ad every five seconds.

Youtube won't serve those ads, even if they're meant to be there by the creator. Twitch doesn't have that technology yet, which makes it really frustrating a month for twitch turbo which, if you don't know, is basically like their youtube premium. It's their ad free service, paying nine dollars for a goddamn ad blocker. I love turbo.

This is their revenue over the past five years and in 2020 they they made 2.3 billion dollars, which is pretty good and in advertising revenue they made 750 million. Obviously, a lot more people watching twitch xqc youtube that same year, 120 billion dollars. So we're we're not really in the same ballpark. But the bigger problem is how much money twitch is hemorrhaging. I mean they are burning through.

They have hundreds and hundreds of engineers who they hire. Full-Time people and and paying staff is not cheap. Well, wait! Wait that wait! Okay, i give you a little uh the video, but because these metrics don't make sense. What one is one is for a flat uh, a pre-recorded content and one is for live content.

What products have twitch released in the past six months to a year that these engineers are working on? Why do you have so many engineers if it's so bloated and nothing comes out? The youtube gaming stats now nine months now we're entering i've spoken to interesting territory, product managers at twitch and they have great ideas, they're, smart people, but it's impossible to get them through. If they're not really working like a well-oiled machine and that's not to even talk about how much money they're losing with which prime are you kidding me, i mean twitch prime's amazing, and it immediately means more people. Uh sub count explode and be able to go full time and and better content, yeah sure guys, you guys guys. I think this is a big thing to remember: okay, guys twitch prime, because it's not even the hashtag ad guys, which guys it's a live.

It's a it's a savior, okay! I i think i think uh live streaming, wouldn't be i'm talking about literally on the bigger scale. I think it helped uh uh. It makes streaming a thing for people, because back in the day, you guys you guys remember this. Okay, but there's nobody had subs there's the number one crit on on the on twitch had like nine thousand ten thousand.

Now people have literally a dozen dozen, and you know, even though they're smaller have thousands that that's twitch prime right. There prime went hard. It's it. It made mobile, do it and it'll grow sustainable to do it.

I think it's kind of busting money on that right and you can say marketing spence over and over and over, but eventually you have to prove it to the big dogs. Twitch will have to prove to amazon that oh, these marketing expenses in us, losing you know millions. If not tens of millions of dollars every month is actually good. This is good for you, and eventually, amazon won't want to hemorrhage money.

They will want to turn profitability. Like i understand what all silicon valley companies must eventually do is is at least have a game plan to be profitable and that's you know the same problem that companies like netflix and uber are are currently struggling with um and, and the difference is this is not A public company that has to report to shareholders - and you know maybe, can stick around a little longer. They have to report to amazon. So if amazon one day comes down and is upset and it's jeff bezos and he's and he's just fuming and going twitch has to respond and they have to have some plan, and i think that's why they've made all these changes.

That's why they want more ads for every streamer, because ads are a more scalable way for profitability. What else lester coming in here? This is one of the heads of um gaming uh on youtube.
