6. 1. This is a silly reason for a person to be vegan.

   What is an animal? Are bacteria animals? Insects? Is it really more acceptable to kill animals with a smaller brain than animals with a larger one? Does killing a lizard make you feel more guilty than killing a spider? What about a bird?

   Is it really more acceptable to kill animals because you are irritated with their presence, or you need to build a house, or you need to protect your crops, than killing to eat them?

   If the concern is with farming methods, that’s one thing, but if the concern is killing animals at all, I think that's just unbelievably hypocritical.

   2. Farming vegetables is destructive in its own way. In terms of long term harm to the land, its probably worse. Eating meat is not environmentally unsustainable. Again, a sham of a reason. Protesting the farming methods is different from protesting meat eating. A vegan could probably do much better eating meat but pledging never to drive a car, fly an airplane or travel long distances. A vegan could probably do much better by living in smaller houses, using less heat, less air conditioning, less water, fewer clothes, fewer pieces of furniture.

   3. This particular “healthy diet” is a dangerous one and requires careful attention to nutrients that could otherwise be easily and naturally obtained. Instead, it requires a very strict diet that one can not deviate from without putting oneself at risk of malnutrition. I would like to see a peer reviewed study that a vegan diet is healthier than other more mainstream healthy diets because that is what is being claimed when a vegan says they are vegan for health reasons.

16. I heard lots of stupid reasons to go vegan, but over a cartoon is perhaps the dumbest one. Bambi is a cartoon character, deer in real life are wild animals that don't act like cute Disney characters. They can be aggressive and are able to kill you easily. They often do if you approach a male upped on testo. People need to stop infantilizing wildlife, not a good way to get into respecting it I think, provides a bad foundation. Part of conservation and rebuilding the climate includes overpopulated deer actually dying more to wolves introduced which might be opposed by people who see them only as cute Disney characters and not respected as wildlife part of ecosystem.

    That's not to say that going vegan is stupid. I am not vegan but acknowledge that there is one objectively good reason to go vegan beyond personal morality that is overwhelmingly supported with evidence and science, and that is for the sake of the climate. At least until we get people to stop being so annoyingly prudish and start to try and change the meat in their diet to insects. Someone start introducing that already.
