The misogyny against women in video games is not necessarily a problem that adults complaining about it can fix. Most of the reactions to coming across a girl gamer come from legit kids. You don't have many grown men online going "GRILL!!!" whenever a girl talks or whatever. I also don't get why it matters what gender someone is in a video game where everyone has the same way of earning rankings and such. On sites like Twitch, you have people spamming, "I LOST", but I don't really understand where the misogyny claims are coming from, can someone fill me in? If individual incidents of people being creepy occur, that's independent of the overall gaming culture, so is the portrayal of women in video games. The view of women in the gaming community is analogous to the view of women in greater society across the different age groups, the difference is that all age groups get combined online, so adult women are often reading the immature comments of children who have no empathy.

I love the argument that guys used to made fun of girls because video games where boys club in the 90's. It was a guys club because girls made fun of guys that played video games calling them nerds, losers, weirdos. Are we going to pretend that when videogames first arrived guys didn't want girls to play? Guys would kill to have a girlfriend that played games, but istead they got made fun of it by girls. So they started to hide it and the culture evolved as a guy thing. Now that is popular to play, and girls want to be in the space, girls are aprehensive and will make jokes about them like they do when guys that don't belong to a space dominated by girls are made fun of. The majority will allways make fun of the minority. And this happends to basically everything, but nobody talks about them. For example if you are a russian dude in a call full of americans you will be made fun of. If there's photos of you and for example you are fat other people playing with you will call you fat if you start feeding or playing badly. They will take anything that is different to make fun of you. But the opposite also happends. If you play a game that is mostly girls that play it, if you are a boy or a man they will way more likley make fun of you because of that than they would make fun of another girl.
