The last story about the so-called 'bipolar' drug trafficker story was totally one-sided, it almost feels like fake news.
First of all, he went through 3 very public trials (2 appeals) for more than a year in China, NOT 24 HOURS!
The 'acting nervous at the airport due to not understanding Chinese' is pure BS! It was an international airport everything was in both English and Chinese, more importantly, if he somehow did not understand anything, how did he go through the customs after landing and pick up the suitcase at luggage check out?
Secondly, he even hired his own Chinese attorney and was visited by his two cousins while in custody!
It was the Chinese lawyer that he hired who suggested to him to go for the insanity plea at first, but he refused! He stated that he wasn't insane and requested a psychiatric evaluation to prove that he was sane! Not insane!
Thirdly, he and his family never had a medical record related to mental disorders (bipolar is usually genetic) and he stayed at a five-star-star hotel in Tajikistan before entering China.
Moreover, his family claimed that he had been mentally ill since 2001, but why they didn't take him to do an evaluation for at least 5 years?
Lastly he was the owner of a small Taxi company at the time.
Are you telling me a guy with a Taxi driving license + was the owner of a business + has the ability to traveling around counties with no history of mental illness was somehow insane after being caught with bags of heroin inside a hidden compartment?
I don't know how a British drug trafficker being caught with 4kg of heroin red-handed somehow turned into another 'China bad' story. But all of the information above could be easily found on Wikipedia.
A simple Google search of Akmal Shaikh could help you understand both sides of the story.
